Must-Visit Attractions and Exciting Activities for kids in Genoa Liguria

The Aquarium of Genoa

Start your family adventure in Genoa by visiting the Aquarium of Genoa. For marine enthusiasts, a visit to the Genoa Aquarium is a must. This modern aquarium showcases a variety of marine life, including colorful fish, sharks, and even penguins. Kids can learn about different ecosystems and marine conservation through interactive exhibits and educational presentations. The aquarium also offers feeding sessions and behind-the-scenes tours, providing a unique and immersive experience for the whole family.

It is the largest aquarium in Italy. If you are travelling with small children, you should plan your day here carefully.

5 things you should know before visiting the Aquarium of Genoa:

1) It can take 2 to 4 hours to go through.
2) Small children can easily get tired and frustrated after all that walking and exploring.
3) Plan your visit so that you can have lunch in the aquarium's cafe or just take a break and enjoy the view on the terrace overlooking the port. The cafe with a beautiful terrace is conveniently located in the middle of the tour.
4) You can save money by pre-booking your entrance ticket with a lunch online.
5) If you plan to visit different attractions in Genoa, you can also save money by booking them together.

La Città dei Bambini e dei Ragazzi
(The City of Children and Youth)

This interactive museum is designed specifically for children and offers a wide range of exhibits and activities that encourage learning through play. Kids can explore different themed areas, such as hearing room, touch room, smell-taste room, and engage in hands-on experiments and creative projects.

Bigo Panoramic Lift

Genoa is located on a steep hillside. If you want to explore higher areas and enjoy the views, there are free cable cars and elevators throughout the city. In the Porto Antico area, there is the Bigo panoramic elevator, which offers a 360-degree view of the entire Genoa port. Tickets cost €5 for adults and €4 for children aged 4 and over. So, for a family of four it's 18-20 euros. However, right in front of Bigo on the roof of the building is the famous Eataly restaurant. There are two glass elevators to take you there and enjoy panoramic views of the harbour. While they don’t offer 360-degree views, you can still enjoy the view of the harbour from above for free, and you don’t have to eat in the restaurant if you don’t want to.
